The French kicking Shakespeare’s a**

The Movement RSA went back to school, this time hosting a Shakespearian workshop for the Gr 10 learners of Lycee Jules Verne (aka The International French School). Learners were given an informal introduction to Shakespeare (with fun facts about the legend and his life), before undergoing a full group warm-up (hosted by Mlindeli Zondi). The learners were then split up into smaller groups, and under the direction of a facilitator from The Movement RSA, played games and did activities to prepare for a dramatic showcase. At the end of the day each group presented a Shakespearian Sonnet to their peers, teachers friends and parents, before going on their winter vacation.

Here are some pictures of the day.

The Movement RSA turns 1!

In Early November of 2016, The Movement RSA celebrated our 1st birthday. We began as a theatre company in November 2015, after our founders (Mahlatsi Mokgonyana, Billy Langa, and Jovan Muthray) approached the other six members to join the team. After these three gents had watched each member in various shows, and been impressed by the talents at hand, Mahlatsi sent out the longest Facebook message ever as an invitation to form a collective… Thus The Movement RSA was born!

In our first year we have performed at POPArt Theatre in Maboneng, and the Soweto Theatre. We have been a part of three festivals, showcasing ‘Just Antigone’ in Grahamstown at the 2016 National Arts Festival, in Joburg at Redhill School for the RedFest theatre festival, and Wits Theatre for the 969 Festival. This show has also toured several schools around the Gauteng area, often accompanied by a  Q+A session from the audience or interactive workshop. We have held several educational workshops for high school this year, including the International French School and Dainfern College.

We look forward to MANY more years and projects, as we continue to grow in age and strength!

PS – We will be accepting cake.
